Décidément, je crois qu’aller voir un groupe Finlandais pour mon
anniversaire va devenir une tradition. L’année dernière c’était avec Nightwish
que je soufflais mes bougies (un concert magique d’ailleurs ♥) et cette
année c’est avec Sonata Arctica au Garage de Saarbrücken en Allemagne.

Really, I think that going to see a Finnish band for my birthday will
become a tradition. Last year it was with Nightwish that I blew my candles
(also a magical concert ♥) and this year it is with Sonata Arctica at
Garage Saarbrücken in Germany.

The first band,
Trick Or Treat, plunge us without delay in their world with a musical intro and
then they start playing their power metal that looks like power Helloween’s
power metal. Although their music has not transcended me, I enjoyed the stage
presence of five Italians and their good humor. Even if I am still wondering
about the « Like Donald Duck » song, the little intro duck and the big
white hand that you can put like a glove straight out of a Disney, and that
Alessandro Conti (vocals) brandished. Where is this idea came to them?

           
Vient ensuite, Sonata Arctica que j’ai découvert, il y a à peine deux mois,
lors de l’interview avec Katana et Civil War au RockFabrik à Ludwisburg en
Allemagne. En effet, dans la salle où nous étions il y avait une multitude
d’affiche, dont une qui à particulièrement attiré mon regard : un loup sur
un fond bleu glacial (la pochette de leur nouvel album : Pariah’s Child).
Quelques jours plus tard, je les ai croisé dans un magazine : leur artwork me plaisait, leur tête aussi, et ils étaient Finlandais.  Il m’en fallait pas plus pour me pousser à
écouter ce dont ils étaient capables. Leurs albums ont été des coups de cœur,
malheureusement c’est un des rares groupes que je préfère sur CD que sur scène
car d’une certaine manière j’ai trouvé leur son moins percutant, ce soir (à
revoir dans une autre salle ?). Parmi les morceaux que j’ai vraiment
apprécié, je retiens surtout « I have a right » qui était vraiment
magique : une voix douce, un refrain saisissant et des étoiles qui
tournoient dans la salle (c’est l’effet de la boule à facette, bien sûre !).
C’est le genre de chanson qui t’entraine dans un tourbillon dont tu n’as pas
envie de sortir. Et puis j’ai adoré les musiciens qui bougent et prennent
plaisir à jouer ! Ils sont tout autant agréable sur scène qu’en dehors.

Come then,
Sonata Arctica I discovered there was only two months, during the interview
with Katana and the Civil War at Rockfabrik in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Indeed, in
the room where we were there was a multitude of posters, including one in
particular caught my eye: a wolf on an icy blue background (the cover of their
new album: Pariah’s Child). A few days later, I came across a magazine I liked
their artwork, their
heads too, and they were Finns. I immediately to hear what they were capable of
doing. I fell in love with their albums, unfortunately this is one of the few
bands that I prefer on CD that on stage because somehow I found their sound
less powerful tonight (to be reviewed in another place?). Among the songs that
I really enjoyed, I especially remember « I have a right » which was
really magic: a soft voice, a striking chorus and stars whirling in the room
(this is the effect of the ball facet, of course!). This is the kind of song that carry
you away a whirlwind that you did not want to leave.  And I loved the musicians that move and take
pleasure in playing! They are just as nice on stage that outside.

           
Après le concert, Yvan et moi étions les seuls à les attendre. Et je peux
vous dire que nous nous sommes armés de patiente car c’est après plus de deux
heures qu’ils sont enfin sortit ! Mais bon, on peut leur pardonner
puisqu’ils ont tous signé les quelques albums que je me suis empressée d’acheter
avant de les voir et puis on a apprit à dire « merci » en
finnois : « Kiitos ! ».

After the gig,
Yvan and I were the only ones waiting for them. And I can tell you that we are
armed with patient because it is more than two hours after they are finally
come! But we can forgive them because they have all signed the few albums that I
bought before seeing them and we learned to say « thank you » in
Finnish: « Kiitos! « .
